Dear Artists

Thank you for your interest in exhibiting with HIVE. As you know this September 3rd we are due to launch our next group show which will coincide with the Waterford Harvest Festival. Scheduled to open at 7.00pm the Gallery is situated directly beside the main entrance to the festival launch gig in Bolton Street car park. Featuring performances by the Stunning, the Saw Doctors, and O Emperor the gig is guaranteed to ensure a huge crowd and contribute to a great opening night.

Hive is located at the cultural centre of Waterford city, beside House of Waterford Crystal, Bishop’s Palace and the Theatre Royal. It is the product of an initiative by the Waterford City Council to collaborate with artists in transforming council owned derelict buildings into facilities for the arts. The formerly dilapidated dwellings now have the capacity to facilitate recording studios, artist studios and an exhibition space. The Gallery opens regularly, three days a week, offering a unique opportunity to experience artwork outside of the formal gallery setting, meet artists and view working studios.

Artists wishing to submit work need not be worried about the confinements of a set theme or specific criteria. A theme will arise as an amalgamation between suiting the harvest audience and creating a cohesive show. Artists when applying through email are requested to submit images of work including dimensions, a concise statement outlining the artist and his current/submitted work, and an artist’s CV. If a website covers all the above then a link will suffice. With regards to video and performance art we would require exemplary video as part of submissions.

As we are an artist run space applicants are also requested to state whether they will be available to volunteer with the show. This is incentivised through a commission reduction from 20% to as little as 5% and although not compulsory the ability to volunteer may, in close circumstances become a deciding factor in the selection of an artist’s work. Volunteering provides emerging artists with the opportunity to gain experience network and actively contribute to the success of the show.

Submissions will be accepted up until the 27th of this month through email at hiveartists@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
